Make Sure You Look After Yourself Too, Mama!
Mother's Day is around the corner and as the day approaching, we are starting a new blog post series. Mummy bloggers will share with you, their thoughts on motherhood and how strong mums are. Basically Wonder Women!
Starting today with Michaela from the blog Adventures Of A Yorkshire Mum!
We all know just how life can take over when you're a parent and hours sink into days, into weeks. The job of raising children is one of the hardest out there and comes with a lot of baggage to get through during the day. Sometimes after sorting the children, feeding them and bathing them, the day has gone and everything else just has to wait.
And I get it - We all get it. A parent will always put their children to the top of any priority but we should be making sure that we're not only looking after our children, but we're taking care of ourselves too so that we don't run out of steam at the end of the day.
As a parent, you can only do so much and every parent can burn out when they're not focusing on themselves once in a while. Being a parent isn’t always easy. It can feel hard if you're tired, stressed and have a to-do list as long as your arm. And no matter how many times you look at your watch, the hours are still going to keep moving.
Get Some 'Me Time'
If you get a break to relax then you are more likely to be able to cope with whatever life throws at you. Just 10 minutes - Take those 10 minutes of your day to chill out and have a bath, read a magazine or talk to a friend. Just don't spend time feeling guilty about the jobs that should be done when your child is asleep. Use some of this time to relax and do something you enjoy. Cleaning can be done any time but mum and dad are most important.
Know When To Say No
Sometimes there are things on your to-do list that are just not critical to the life of your family. I mean, who has time to pair socks anyway - give up, there's always an odd one!. Your needs come above household chores, phone calls that are endless with needy friends, or stocking up on cupboard foods. Eliminating the unessential responsibilities off your list will not only create some extra time and space, it will also lighten the burden you’re feeling to keep up with it.
Preparation Is Key
We know that we don't have much time to spend on ourselves but there's nothing worse than running out of milk, or somethings for the kids packed lunches when you're preparing them. Shop online to get it done quicker and then it gives you a break and no self-service machines to shout at. Meal prep - it's the best thing ever. Not only does it save you money but it saves so much time too. Giving us mums more time to spend on ourselves.
Get Some Sleep
This is certainly not new wisdom by far, but it’s often avoided by busy parents. Sleep is essential to you staying healthy and being able to be at your best. Okay, you don't exactly get to 'sleep when baby sleeps', but don't keep yourself awake at night working, or cleaning, when you could be sleeping. And just remember, a zombie mum is no good to anyone, so go get some of those extra zzz's whilst you can...
